Why Use a Travel Agent?

travel agent 1 / trâv-al/ /ae-jent/.

The phrase harkens back to the glory days of travel, before the internet made it easy for anyone to book a trip themselves directly with a vendor. It was a time when your agent would see to it that every detail of your trip was well-planned, correctly booked, and suited specifically to you and your travel companions. For a while, it looked like Travel Agents might go the way of the dodo bird. But still, they persisted, lasting through economic downturns, airline crises, and even the more-accessible-than-ever Internet.

So why do so many travelers turn to an agent even today? Consider these reasons:

  • Personal Attention:

Outlander Travel is dedicated to learning about your travel needs, wishes, and desires. We want to know who you travel with, what you like to do together, and what you hope to achieve with your trip. Are you all about beaches, hammocks, and drinks with little paper umbrellas? Do you want to be constantly entertained with attractions, thrill rides, and shows? Or are you a world explorer, looking to learn the secrets of all the many peoples and cultures on our planet? Are you an animal lover, reaching beyond the limits of zoos and movie screens to see nature's wonders first hand? Or perhaps even more than animals, you simply seek adventure--hiking, biking, climbing, rafting, and sweating your way through the world's bounty. Whatever your goals, Outlander wants to help you reach them. We want to listen, respond, and help advise you toward the perfect trip, every time.
  • Expertise:

The Internet is all about self-service. This seems like a fantastic advantage until you realize how many travel opportunities are really out there and try to narrow down your options to best suit your needs. This is where Outlander Travel can help. We can guide you through all the options you find and even suggest some you may have missed. Then we can talk you through those options in regard to your personal needs and wishes to help decide where you will get the most value for your hard-earned vacation dollars. Best of all, we are up to speed on current specials, sales, and promotions from many major suppliers and even more minor ones. You would be surprised how much a travel agent can save you both in time and in money.
  • Service:

Your trip could have several moving parts: air travel, land travel, hotels, tour guides, rental cars... it's a lot to keep up with. Outlander Travel will package your trip for you, and then serve as a one-stop shop for answering your questions, concerns, or even helping to make changes and tweaks to your itinerary. And we can communicate with you by whichever means you prefer: telephone, chat, emails, and even face-to-face visits for the local folks. We want your vacation to be as fantastic as you do, and we will work hard to ensure that it is. And remember, there is usually no cost to you to use a travel agent. We try to work solely off of commission from the vendors. There are a few exceptions to this based on the sort of trip we are arranging for you. You can find these exceptions on our Fee Schedule.

Elizabeth Caran

Elizabeth knows how important travel is for your family and for your own personal growth. She caught the travel bug at a very early age when her parents took her to Walt Disney World® Resort for the first time at age five. From there, her family vacations have spanned a good part of the world, including destinations in the US, Canada, the Bahamas and Caribbean, Europe, the Pacific Islands, Hong Kong and mainland China. Her focus is on family travel and she has been to four of the world’s five Disney Parks® areas with more than twenty-five visits to the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida over the last twenty years. She has sailed on numerous cruise lines including Disney Cruise Line®, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian and Carnival. Her passion for travel is apparent in the detailed attention she puts into putting your vacations together.

Along with her wealth of personal travel experience, Elizabeth has twenty years experience in management and holds a BA in Secondary English Education as well as a Masters of Library and Information Science degree. Elizabeth is a graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge and has attained a special knowledge of Disney Destinations. Aimee Eckler

Aimee grew up traveling around the country with her mother who also had , and still has, a love for travel. She was fortunate enough to tag along as her mother presented research papers all over the U.S., Europe, and Canada. Aimee loves to research travel destinations, almost obsessively according to her husband! Although she will travel anywhere, at any time, her last 10 years have focused mostly on ocean cruises and resorts in the Caribbean. Aimee admits she can't stop talking once someone asks her anything about those topics. She is excited to break into the new trend of river cruising. She has been studying the itineraries of all of the river cruise companies she can find.

Aimee has a B.S. in early childhood education from UNC-Greensboro. She taught kindergarten in New Jersey, assisted in an elementary school in Kansas, and was a pre-school teacher in N.C. She feels very blessed to able to change career paths into one that allows her work as a professional in a field that she has passionately loved all of her life.

Sandy Ezzell

Sandy is excited to turn a love for travel and attention to detail into an exciting career. It started when she was young and her father worked out of town, so summers were spent where he worked in Niagara Falls and throughout Canada, as well as family vacations to places like Acadia National Park in Maine and Manitoba, Canada. After that the family moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where she grew up in a resort town and planned vacations to bigger cities. She has relished planning trips for friends and family for over 20 years. Even when she was not going on these trips, the plans were tucked away for future weekend getaways, international honeymoons, and family reunions. Sandy is also an avid runner and enjoys destination races out of town with her running buddies. She recently completed her first marathon at Walt Disney World.

Sandy has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and has served as treasurer of her kids’ PTA as well as leader of their scout troops. She loves to plan and is excited to research even more fantastic vacation ideas. Whether it’s a camping trip to a National Park, a group going to Walt Disney World, a relaxing beach trip or a Destination Marathon, Sandy will plan your trip as if it’s her own and make sure you have the vacation of your dreams.

Lindsay Sauer

Lindsay fell in love with the idea of travel at a young age. Maps, globes... her walls were covered in the places she longed to visit. Her favorite field trip as a child was to the Holiday Folk Fair in Milwaukee, WI. It was full of cultural exhibits, trinkets, and food from all around the world. From that fair visit, the wanderlust set in and she knew the world had so much more to offer than what she had experienced so far. She made a checklist of all of the places she wanted to visit and has been adding destinations ever since. Ireland, Aruba, The Bahamas, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Jamaica, St Lucia, and Antigua are just some of the amazing destinations she has checked off so far. And don't think for a moment she only travels outside the US. She has visited 39 states and has lived in four of them: Wisconsin, New Jersey, Texas, and she now resides on Whidbey Island in Washington. On her desk, she has a small globe pencil sharpener from that Holiday Folk Fair and it reminds her every day that there is so much more of the world left to experience.

Lindsay is Sandals Specialist and has visited almost all of the Sandals & Beaches Resorts. She is also a graduate of the College of Disney Knowledge. It is safe to say that after many, many, many, trips to the Walt Disney World Resort®, the Disneyland Resort® and many hours of extensive "research" spent aboard Disney Cruise Line®, she has attained a special knowledge and affinity for all things Disney. She averages 5 or more trips to the Disney Parks® per year to quality check the rides, resorts, and restaurants. And perhaps to have a little fun. In addition to being a Disney Geek, she is on a personal quest to get in touch with her "Inner Runner." She has completed multiple Run Disney® events and is currently registered for far more than her husband feels is in fact necessary. She is currently working toward her ACC (Accredited Cruise Counselor) accreditation from CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association, Inc.). She is also working toward her CTA (Certified Travel Associate) through The Travel Institute. She attends regular workshops and expos with travel companies and professional organizations and she cannot wait to help you plan your next incredible vacation.

Andy Simmons

Andy Simmons was bitten by the travel bug at the age of 9, when he took his first overseas family trip to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. Born and raised in England, Andy’s primary focus is on European travel. Having witnessed first-hand just how travel can broaden the mind, Andy is keen to pass his love of travel on to others and is especially thrilled to see young people experiencing overseas travels and cultures.

Andy has traveled extensively throughout Western Europe, and also worked for a number of seasons within the travel industry as a Tour Director with a major European motor coach tour operator. Andy also speaks fluent French and German and holds a dual honors degree in French & German from John Moores University in Liverpool, England.

Since moving to the United States in 1997, Andy has traveled around the Caribbean, as well as to many destinations around the United States. His favorite travel destinations within the United States include Walt Disney World, Washington, DC, as well as the beaches of the southeastern seaboard.

Schedule of Fees

For the most part, agents are able to work for commission only. However, due to standards in the travel industry and fees associated with airlines, as well as the work involved with putting together a large trip, we do sometimes charge fees. This fee schedule is a guide for what you may be asked to pay.
  • Service Fee for booking an air-only itinerary $20 per “trip”
(Four round trip tickets purchased together count as one “trip”)
  • Service Fee for booking an air/hotel itinerary $10 per booking
(Number of nights does not matter, as long as it is the same hotel stay)

There is no fee for booking airfare when booked with a large package such as a cruise, theme park vacation, or resort stay that comes to $1000 or more before air.

  • Service fee for research $50 to be applied toward deposit
(The agent will notify you at the time of the initial consultation if the service fee will be required to complete the work. The fee is then applied to your vacation deposit when booked, but is non-refundable if you cancel your vacation. This is normally charged for individualized tours that require searching multiple vendors to create a custom vacation package.)
